Karen Vines keynote speaker in Bangladesh

Karen Vines recently provided a keynote presentation at the biennial meeting of the Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Society Meeting, International Conference on Sustainable Development: Road to SDGs. Her presentation was entitled, “The Role of Modernizing Agricultural Education for Mitigating Rural Challenges: Meeting Rural Needs to Provide Sustainable Agriculture and Build Community Capacity through the Land Grant System & Cooperative Extension.” The conference was held at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), which is a relatively new agricultural university in Bangladesh.
While there, she met with students, faculty, and administration from SAU in addition to conference attendees. She also traveled to the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) where she was hosted by the Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Agriculture and Extension Education. She also was invited to provide a departmental seminar titled “Building Community Capacity & Resilience through US & Bangladesh Cooperative Extension Models.” In addition to visiting in the department and greeting students in the first day of one of their classes, she also visited the Graduate Training Institute and the Bangladesh Agricultural University Extension Centre. She received a keynote presentation award and was invited to serve a term, helping to guide policy on the executive board of the Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Society and as a life member of the society.
