Applying to GSA
We are thrilled that you are considering applying to the Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture at Virginia Tech!
Please note that as of August 2024, students can now be identified as gifted or advanced. This is a change in the previous requirement of gifted and talented. The official wording in the Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School Handbook through VDOE has changed to reflect this as a way to be more inclusive of a variety of students and communities throughout the Commonwealth. However, schools and school divisions may use their discretion in how they advertise the Summer Residential Governor’s School programs and the criteria used to evaluate students who apply.
To begin the application process, rising juniors and seniors who are interested in the Virginia Governor's School for Agriculture at Virginia Tech should contact their school counselor or their school or county gifted and talented coordinator. These individuals are the best equipped to answer questions regarding the application process.
At this time Virginia Tech, the Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education, and the Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture do not participate in the application process including application submission, review, and selection. The Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture is a program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
As this is a VDOE-sponsored program, the entire application process from submission to selection is facilitated by VDOE. Schools and/or counties will submit applications on behalf of the student.
The deadline for application submission to the VDOE is February 25, 2025. However, each school or country has different deadlines and criteria/procedures for applying.
For more information, you can look over the VDOE Summer Residential Governor’s School website to access the application.
